The best way to send large video files

The best way to send large video files is a transfer service that keeps what already uploaded when the connection breaks, with a link the recipient opens without an account. Which one depends on the job, so the list below is ranked by what you're sending.

We make Tranzfer, and it's first on this list for the job we built it for. It isn't first for every job, and the list says where something else wins. Facts about other services come from their own pages, checked 9 October 2026, and each is linked.

Which tool is best for which video job?

  1. Tranzfer, for whole shoots from a browser. Hundreds of gigabytes, folders kept, a flat monthly price. If the Wi-Fi drops it retries, and after a crash or closed tab you pick the same files and only the missing parts upload. No desktop app, links last 14 days at most.
  2. MASV, if you want a desktop app and pay per use. $0.25 per GB after 15 GB free each month, portals for collecting files from clients, and a desktop app that recovers from reboots. In the browser, a closed tab means starting over.
  3. Frame.io, for review and approval. Frame-accurate comments, versions and share links that work without an account. It's storage priced per member, so files stay until you delete them. More on the Frame.io alternatives page.
  4. Filemail, for files that should stay up for good. Pro keeps files permanently and Business takes any size. Resume is a desktop app feature.
  5. WeTransfer, for short exports to someone who expects it. Everyone knows the link. Free and Starter cap what you send in 30 days, and their links last 3 days.
  6. Dropbox Transfer or Google Drive, if your team already pays for it. Up to 100 or 250 GB a transfer on Dropbox business plans, files up to 5 TB on Drive. Both are storage first, and neither documents what a browser upload does after a closed tab.

How do they compare on price and limits?

The last column is four 100 GB deliveries in a month, one live at a time.

What matters most when sending video?

Surviving an interruption. A 300 GB shoot on a 50 Mbps upload runs for 13 hours 20 minutes at full speed. Something will happen in 13 hours. Check what each tool does when it does, in the browser and not just in a desktop app. Most pages don't say, which is why the table above has so many "not stated" cells.

Sending the folder as it is. Cameras write card structures, sidecars and metadata that editing apps read. A tool that keeps folders saves your editor from rebuilding them. Our guide to transferring raw footage has the prep steps.

What the recipient has to do. None of the tools above ask the recipient to sign up to download. On Tranzfer, desktop Chrome and Edge save a whole delivery into one folder in one go; other browsers download file by file.

How the bill grows. Per-GB pricing is cheap in a quiet month and expensive in a busy one. Per-seat storage like Frame.io's grows with the team. A flat plan like ours stays put but counts what's live at once. The price calculator runs your own numbers.

The tools, one by one

1. Tranzfer

Best for Hundreds of gigabytes from a browser, on a connection you don't trust.

Price
Free, then $15, $29 or $69 a month, flat
How big
20 GB live at once on Free, up to 3 TB on Studio. No separate per-file cap.
If the upload is interrupted
Retries after a drop and carries on after sleep. After a crash or closed tab, pick the same files and only the missing parts upload.
How long links last
Up to 3, 7 or 14 days by plan, then the files are deleted

Good

  • Every plan resumes, Free included
  • Flat monthly price, not per GB
  • Folders arrive sorted; desktop Chrome and Edge save a whole delivery into one folder

Watch out

  • No desktop app and no team seats yet
  • Links last 14 days at most
  • 3 TB live at once is the ceiling
  • New. Tested at 100 GB with eight failures forced on purpose, not years of production

Price
$0.25 per GB after 15 GB free each month, or annual bundles from $58 a month for 250 GB

When is shipping a drive better?

When the upload would take days. At 20 Mbps, 2 TB takes over 9 days at full speed. A drive in the post gets there in one or two, and for multi-terabyte projects on slow lines that's still the right answer. The upload time calculator tells you where your line crosses over.

Questions people ask

What's the best free way to send a large video file?

Under 20 GB, Tranzfer Free holds it with a 3-day link, and Smash Free takes any size but queues anything over 2 GB behind paying users. MASV gives 15 GB free a month but needs a credit card to sign up.

Can I send a 100 GB video with WeTransfer?

Yes on Starter, which allows 10 transfers or 300 GB in any 30 days, or on Ultimate, which takes up to 1 TB per transfer by WeTransfer's help center. Free stops at 3 GB in 30 days, and Free and Starter links last 3 days.

Should I send video through Frame.io or a transfer service?

Frame.io is built for review, with comments pinned to frames and versions in one place. For handing over camera originals once, a transfer is cheaper and the files don't sit in your storage. Plenty of teams use both.

Should I compress video before sending it?

Not the camera originals. Re-encoding loses quality and metadata, and video is already compressed, so a zip barely shrinks it. Send proxies first if the originals are too big to arrive in time.

Got a big one to send?

Tranzfer sends hundreds of gigabytes from the browser and picks up where it left off when the connection drops. Free holds 20 GB at once, no card.
